Shine Kids Fitness Inc.
Company History & Founders
Shine Kids Fitness is the creation of three fitness and family oriented individuals with a great entrepreneurial spirit. It was started in Fort McMurray, AB in May of 2015.
Christina & Matt Aaron are the parents of 3 wonderful children and they have a passion for helping all children to grow up happy & healthy. Together they spent time teaching at English schools in Taiwan before starting their own family in 2006. Christina studied child development in university while completing her Bachelor of Science degree at UBC-Okanagan. Her experience with children includes kids yoga teacher certification, gymnastic coaching, childcare management and Behavioral and Social Skills therapy programs for children on the autism spectrum. Matt studied Business at Okanagan College, is a professional Pilot and is a certified personal trainer who has participated in and studied sports science, health and fitness for over 20 years, helping him amass a wealth of knowledge to pass on to the next generation of athletes.
Sheila Chutskoff was a nanny for over 8 years and has a love for children and animals. She is the founder of oranj fitness, a successful high-end luxury fitness studio chain in Western Canada. Sheila was also the Regional Marketing Manager for lululemon for over 6 yrs and has a degree in Entrepreneurial Management.
Christina worked closely under the management of Sheila at her oranj fitness location in Fort McMurray as her childcare manager. Christina began teaching yoga at oranj fitness after the completion of her 200 RYT certification in Jan 2015, and immediately became aware of the need for quality yoga and fitness programming for children. Together, Christina, Matt & Sheila recognized a need in the community for a place where kids’ health and fitness comes first – fitness of both body and mind. A place where kids can productively expend their abundance of energy through participation in a variety of engaging and fun classes designed to increase both fitness and mindfulness. Harnessing their entrepreneurial spirit, they set out to bring such a place to life.
The first Shine Programs started running in July 2015 with Summer camps for children ages 3+. Fall community programming followed and the programs were an immediate success. Shine continues to run community programs in Fort McMurray out of a new community centre and has expanded into school programming and after-school programs around the community.
When the devastating Fort McMurray wildfire forced the evacuation of the community of Fort McMurray, Christina, Matt and Sheila found themselves relocated to their home community of Kelowna, BC. This provided the catalyst to starting Shine Programming in a new community. Shine programs in schools in Kelowna BC began in Sept 2016 with plans for community programming starting in 2017.
